On July 3 and 4, we were invited to the Equality Rights Alliance’s Gender Equality Symposium, and I was able to attend and represent both TWAL and the National Rural Women’s Coalition and Network, it was a combined in person and virtual event and I missed the Opening Keynote as I was unwell. They were both virtual, so I did not miss the opportunity of meeting the Ministers.
After morning tea, we had a Gender Responsive Climate Action Panel which was extremely interesting, especially learning from Bianca McNeair about her Turtle Monitoring Program.
A keynote address by Dr Rebecca Huntley prescribing the Gender Compass Report was followed by the Models for Sustainable Feminist Advocacy Panel, which was a fantastic discussion on obtaining funding, sharing and sustaining the advocacy voice between organisations.
I had the great good fortune to sit with Elena Rosenman of Women’s Legal Services Australia and Dr Caroline Lambert of Carloine Connects, and I hope to strengthen these relationships.
Unfortunately, I had to leave before the end of the day and was unable to attend day 2 because I was still unwell, but it was a very worthwhile event to attend, and I had several discussions about TWAL and our initiatives.
