At Transport Women Australia Limited we are leading the way by providing scholarships, conducting industry research and developing learning initiatives for our members.

Driving the Difference Scholarships

Established in 2019 with sponsor Daimler Trucks Australia Pacific. Each year we give new and existing members the chance to enter the industry or upskill to advance themselves in their chosen transport related field. The winning applicants must demonstrate initiative, commitment to advancement and professional development in the transport and logistics industry, identify a professional course of study and have an exemplary work ethic.

Women Driving Transport Careers

Established in 2018 with joint venture partners Volvo Group Australia and Wodonga TAFE. This is a unique female-only driver licensing program that allows women to  obtain their truck licence and be employed by a transport company. This initiative  has upskilled drivers for Linfox, Australia Post/StarTrack. Alex Fraser/Hanson, Mainfreight, Visy, and Cleanaway.

Dream Accelerator Leadership Program

This program builds upon the success employers have had with our Women Driving Transport Careers program, focusing on supporting women, and encouraging workplaces to diversify their driving operations personnel.

The Dream Accelerator program focuses on developing emerging and current leaders to achieve their aspirations in management and leadership. The program is tailored specifically to the transport industry, and has been successfully customised and deployed by Wodonga TAFE throughout many other industries, including health, social and community work, travel, food processing, and manufacturing.

Participants will develop leadership skills, alongside soft skills needed to lead successful teams, such as resilience, confidence, conflict management, and more.

Creating Connections Mentoring Program

This program matches our members who are seeking guidance with other members who have a passion for the industry and helping others. The goal is to provide TWAL members with access to mentoring relationships that encourages personal and professional growth through the facilitation of knowledge, experience, support and guidance. The program hopes to also promote professional development among staff entering the workforce and provide opportunities for a career path within the Transport and Logistics Industry. Learning Initiatives Breakfast Series

Established in 2019 with the theme – Financial, Physical and Mental Health with sponsors NTI, Move Bank and rt health. The series went into hiatus in early 2020 (during Covid 19) after a breakfast sponsored by Teletrac Navman and the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator but are back in 2022 with sponsorship by TWUSUPER and rt health. These are designed to provide networking and educational opportunities for attendees in a friendly and interactive environment. These are free events that cover topics like health, finance, superannuation, and other topics that may be relevant to both the personal and professional life of the attendee. Sponsors and members of TWAL can host these 
events. To sponsor or host an event, please contact the Chair. The event must be cost neutral to TWAL and free to members.

Trish Pickering Memorial Award

Trish Pickering Memorial Award is bestowed to recognise women who have dedicated themselves to improving the road transport industry through continuous years of contribution whilst upholding the four pillars on which it is based – being a role model, and showing strength, leadership, independence, and encouragement to future generations.

Transport Women Dream Maker Awards

The Dream Maker Awards were established in 2023 as a Joint Venture between Transport Women Australia Limited and the National Road Transport Museum. This award is to recognise those in the industry who work behind the scenes and help those who front the organisation to achieve their dreams, whether it be an owner/operator, a family business, or a large company.

Criteria for Nomination: –

Demonstrated commitment to their work, company, and the industry; Supportive and committed to helping others; Behind the scenes support e. g. Accounts, compliance, fleet management (registration & permits), payroll, compliance; Must have supported the family/team by being the person who encourages their dreams, work within the company to ensure success, usually in an unrecognised role.

The Dream Maker Award Patron is the Hon Eva Lawler – Former Chief Minister for the Northern Territory.

Young Gunnette Award

Transport Women Australia Limited “Young Gunnette Award” is bestowed to recognise women under the age of thirty who can display that they are contributing to the industry over and above their paid employment/business.The Young Gunnette Award established in 2024, is an annual award to recognise the achievements of up-and-coming females in the transport and logistics industry.

The award is one of the ways TWAL continues to promote, motivate and encourage young females who are contributing to industry early in their careers.

They are an individual who has demonstrated leadership on a matter relating to the industry and/or who has been involved in a significant initiative that has brought about positive change or added value to the industry and/or has inspiring qualities as an advocate of the industry. Even if your nomination does not fit the above, however, they are an outstanding individual within the industry then we still welcome your nomination.
